The first look. |
The first boat i started with was a robbe unlimited hydroplane.
It wouldn't be my last...

The initial version sadly passed away because of a controller fire; yet
i had the feeling this boat had more potential and it's top speed of about
49 km/h wasn't the end.
That's why a bought this new one on E-bay.
The second one: Where it ended the first time, we are now going to continue.

For a long time i was looking for a really fast electric boat, till
i saw this boat at
2 Brothers RC.
When i bought this boat it was fitted with a 700BB turbo neodym motor.
After the first trials i indeed discovered that this boat was flying
across the water. But after my dad showed up with the Graupner B-24,
which was well up to speed with my boat, i replaced to 700 motor with
a 820 BB turbo motor instead. Of course to supply it with enough power
i had to enlarge my battery packs. Well, when you think you've seen
everything, take a look at this, because this really is an electric
canonball. Top speed has been established at 51.9 km/h.
Because i did have a problem with my original axle, the coupling broke
every time I was pushing the boat to its limits, i replaced it with
a more sturdy flexible axle.

Here you see the new hardware i put on. |

A overview. |
It fits: the Ultra 1300/9 |
 |
If totally took out the whole inside of the body,
so i have more place for the 2 15cells battery packs. |
It's First test run:
Crashed. Because of a radio failure, the boat took off on its own way
and landed at the other side of the lake, 7 meters up the bank.
The rudder was completely torn off, including several bits of the hull,
and the turnfin was broken. Luckily, motor, axle and prop survived.

Because of my determination to get the most out of this hull I have
decided to rebuild it once again. I know I can take more from this boat,
to get higher speeds out.
We moved the rudder to the right, instead of its original left place,
we have taken of the trimtabs, and placed the batteries as far to the
back of the boat as possible.
Also several edges of the sponsons and the transom are made sharper,
and the water cooling line was redesigned; no more spray pickup, we
are now going to use a water pickup in the rudder.
At the moment i'm waiting for my new motor, because of the crash the
Ultra 1300/9 died due to unloaded running on 30 cells, something this
type of motor just isn't designed for.
As soon as the motor is back from repair we'll perform some more tests
to find out the limits of this hull, but it's successor is already ordered
and the Robbe unlimited will probably be sold.

I'll keep you updated about this project.
